February 2014

Dear Family and Friends,

It is with excitement and some apprehension, that we write our first missionary letter to you about our journey thus far and our plans for 2014. Excitement knowing our God has his hands upon us and calling us in to fulltime Missionary Ministry. Apprehension, only humanly speaking, to see where we believe God is leading us to serve Him at Safina Street Network in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Africa. We are now making the deliberate move from talking about going, to planning on going in 2015. This year, 2014, will be our year of planning and preparation.

Five years ago, our journey started in our lives, which impacted us towards missions. We attended a Mission Conference called Reachout in 2009. We were challenged to get out of our comfort zone, get our feet wet, jump into the river of the Kingdom of God and step into the freedom of Jesus Christ which is to trust, obey, go and serve Him.

Since then, we have been involved with missions in many different ways. A season with International Teams gave us experience in preparing people and Churches to do short-term missions well. This has taught us many lessons on how to shine, not just survive in cross-cultural ministries. In 2010, we went to the Philippines, where our lives were challenged again with the Filipino people. Their faith in God is so strong and sure, but their way of life is very hard to comprehend, when we think about what we have here in Australia. After this trip our lives were continually challenged about missions.

In 2013, we both did the Perspectives course on Missions. Through the teaching and reading about Missionaries, we felt God was leading us into something and thought about becoming Senders (i.e. supporting those going). Norm has been the Missions Co-ordinator of our Church, Wyoming Church of Christ. Since our Church has been involved with Churches of Christ in Vanuatu, we went and visited the people in Santo and on the island of Amber, a remote village. Once again, we were challenged to help these people in physical and spiritual ways.

Our journey was becoming clearer in our lives, especially after going to the 2013 Reachout Mission Conference. As the weekend progressed, with the teaching from the book of Jonah, seeing mature people our age going to the Mission Field and being in the workshops, it all came alive to use that GOD WANTS US TO BE GOERS. We applied to three Mission Agencies. We had agreed to see if they would take us with our medical histories. Our God confirmed his direction in our lives, when both medical specialists gave us verbal clearance to go. All three mission agencies were interested in us, we were offered thirteen different positions around the world. If has been through prayer and consultation with friends, that has helped us make this decision.

African Inland Mission Agency has become very close to us and our Church. Our Church has been involved with African Inland Mission (AIM) and is supporting the mission called ‘Safina Street Network in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. There is a need for an Administrator/Accountant which is Norm’s career experience. Noeline can help the children by telling Bible stories, helping them and assisting in the Foster Homes and Guest Houses. A verse of scripture has been an encouragement and holds that peace as we take this journey, is “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you; Do not be afraid; Do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8.

We believe our God has gone before us in all aspects of our journey so far. We are taking the next step with His will for our lives. Going forward, we have started the full application process with AIM, which includes belief statements, medical and psychological testing. We have enrolled in an online Bible Course. We are making plans to visit the Safina Street Network in June this year, to prepare us for this ministry, and to see what we will be doing as well as our personal needs that will be required. We are starting to look for financial and prayer support. At present, we are predicting we will need a budget of $40 000 per year.

Please pray for us, as we focus our eyes on our God, so that His plan and will, is fulfilled in our lives. Serving Christ together, Norm and Noeline Scott Please pray: –

  • That we sell our house and then either purchase something smaller and more suitable or rent for a period. –
  • For good time management skills in doing all that is before us. –
  • For wisdom and enjoyment as we study the Word of God in our Bible Course
  • For our God to prepare us in all areas, for our trip in June.
  • For us as we gear up for support raising in the second half of 2014.
